Why Children are Constantly Moving to Different Foster Homes
Read move 4 here:
For my fourth and final move, I wanted to look more into why children constantly go through so many foster homes. I felt this move was necessary because it helped me understand whether or not it is good to place a child into a strangers home. Overall, I learned that it is one of the better options we have when a child is being abused, neglected, and what not in their original home. Unfortunately, when a child switches homes it can often cause them to have trust issues, anger, saddness, and many other mixed emotions. As I was researching in this area, I found several reasons why children are placed in multiple homes and realized that some of those reasons apply to my family as well.
"Many small losses can bury a child who is already waist-deep in depression and loss as they move from foster home to foster home, never feeling at home."
-Deb Stone
Some reasons why children are placed into new foster homes include:
1. Sometimes the foster parents need time to refocus.
2. The foster parent or someone within the family is sick or there is a death within the foster home.
3. The birth family, foster family, or other team members are at odds and it's better for the case if the child is moved to a new foster home.
4. The child's behaviors or needs are draining on the foster family.
